IBS #1 Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Here we have one of the greatest yet simplest definitions of Faith that there is in scripture. We are told that it is the assurance of things hoped for yet at the same time the conviction of things not seen. To truly understand what the Holy Spirit is saying through the author of Hebrews we must break down what the verse says. First off, “Faith” we are told that it is the assurance of things hoped for and so on. But how can one have assurance that they have faith? So far, we have an understanding of how we receive faith and we have begun to break down the definition of Faith. Next let’s look at “the conviction of things not seen” this phrase in insanely self-explanatory so I won’t waste much words on it but it is cool to note that according to Paul’s definition in Romans 8:24 “...Hope that is seen is not hope…” this verse could be worded “Now Faith is the assurance of things not seen, and the conviction of things not seen.”
